The Tsolo Agriculture and Rural Development Institute (TARDI), in collaboration with the Transport Education and Training Authority (TETA), invites applications from motivated, unemployed South African youth for a 36-month Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship Programme.

This programme is part of South Africa’s national artisan development strategy aimed at addressing the critical shortage of skilled diesel mechanics and creating sustainable employment pathways for young people in technical trades.

⚙️ PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

Duration: 36 Months
Number of Apprentices: 25 Candidates Only

📚 Programme Structure:

Phase 1: Institutional Training (Theory & Practical) – 6 Months
Phase 2: Workplace Experiential Training – 24 Months
Phase 3: Trade Test Preparation & Final Assessment – 6 Months

📍 IMPORTANT TRAINING LOCATION NOTICE

Please note that institutional training will NOT take place at Tsolo Campus.

⚠️ Candidates must be willing and able to relocate to Gauteng for the duration of the institutional training phase.

💰 STIPEND

Selected apprentices will receive a monthly stipend of:

💵 R3,000.00 per month

(Subject to attendance, performance, and applicable SETA requirements)

🎓 MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Must be a South African citizen
Age between 18 and 33 years
Currently unemployed (affidavit required)
Must hold N2 or higher qualification in:
- Diesel Mechanic
- Mechanical Engineering
- Motor Mechanics
- Related Engineering Studies
Must have passed:
- Mathematics
- Engineering Science / Physical Science

TVET College graduates
