The City of Ekurhuleni Water & Sanitation Department is seeking a skilled, responsible, and safety-conscious Driver Operator to join its essential service team. This role plays a critical part in ensuring clean, safe, and reliable water and sanitation services across communities in the region.

🌟 ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Driver Operator, you will be responsible for operating water tankers, Hi-up trucks, TLBs, and related machinery used in water and sanitation operations. Your work ensures that communities receive essential services efficiently, safely, and on time.

This role is hands-on, field-based, and requires both technical driving ability and basic operational maintenance awareness.

You will also contribute to maintaining hygiene standards, supporting infrastructure operations, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations.


🎯 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

To be considered, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 10 or equivalent qualification
  • Valid Code 14 (EC) driver’s licence with valid PrDP
  • Applicable operator training or certification (TLB/Hi-up truck/water tanker equipment)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar operational or municipal environment
  • Physically fit and able to perform manual and outdoor work
  • Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and operational sites

Preference will be given to candidates with municipal or water services experience.

In this role, you will be expected to:

πŸš› Vehicle & Equipment Operation

  • Safely operate heavy and light-duty municipal vehicles including water tankers, Hi-up trucks, and TLB equipment
  • Transport tools, equipment, and materials to and from designated sites
  • Ensure safe handling of machinery in compliance with operational standards

πŸ’§ Water & Sanitation Services

  • Assist in maintaining vacuum and chemical toilets in designated service areas
  • Support renewal and maintenance of related utility services
  • Ensure efficient delivery of water-related services in communities

πŸ“‹ Reporting & Administration

  • Record and report daily water usage and operational activities
  • Complete logbooks accurately and submit reports as required
  • Report faults, incidents, or irregularities promptly

πŸ”§ Maintenance & Safety Compliance

  • Conduct basic checks to ensure vehicles and equipment are in good working condition
  • Report mechanical issues and ensure timely repairs
  • Adhere strictly to safety procedures and operational guidelines

  • Follow Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations and municipal bylaws
  • Comply with internal policies, SOPs, and environmental regulations
  • Help reduce waste and ensure responsible use of municipal resources
